PLANSurrounded by architectural treasures, the Valle dei Templi is amongst the most evocative sites of the Greek world and one of the most important complexes outside Greece. We will visit the temples which stand on the high ridge, walking the Sacred Way, and discovering the magnificence of the Tempio della Concordia, which was converted in a Christian church in the 6th century and because of that spared from much of the devastation which afflicted the site over the centuries. You will walk between the Tempio di Zeus ruins, the largest temple built by the Greeks, destroyed to build the harbor of the near town of Porto Empedocle. Among Sicily's main points of scenic interest, you will also discover the Scala dei Turchi, a white limestone cliff, sheer above the sea, with a wavy and irregular shape that rises between two beaches of fine sand. The name of the location originates from its appearance of roundish steps and from being the point of mooring and shelter from the strong African winds for the ships of the Saracen pirates, by the locals also called "Turchi" (Turkish).
